The Climate, Community & Biodiversity Alliance (CCBA)
The Climate, Community & Biodiversity Alliance (CCBA) is a global collaboration among leading non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and socially- and environmentally- responsible corporations.
CCBA partners include (NGOs) Conservation International’s Center for Environmental Leadership in Business, The Hamburg Institute of International Economics, The Nature Conservancy, and Pelangi, and (corporations) BP, Intel, SC Johnson, and GFA Terra System. A broader stakeholder network is also being formed to complement the alliance. The four integrated goals of the CCBA are as follows:
- Develop standards that evaluate and score the climate, community and biodiversity impacts of land-based climate change mitigation projects. The standards will be applicable to the full range of land-based projects worldwide. CCBA standards will identify “blue-chip” projects that concurrently achieve tangible climate, biodiversity and community benefits. A draft set of standards will undergo a rigorous review by world-renowned experts and groups and then will be broadly circulated;
- Field test the standards on existing and planned projects to evaluate their usability and effectiveness;
- Revise the standards as necessary, based on the field tests and public comments;
- Promote the CCBA standards as a credible way to identify projects that simultaneously counter multiple global problems. The CCBA will advocate that project developers, key policy forums, individual companies, academic and scientific institutions, governments, development agencies and others adopt the standards. The CCBA, through the development of rigorous standards, promotes land-based projects and policies that are equitable, measurable, and cost effective solutions to multiple global challenges.
