Implementation of the CDM in the ASEAN Energy Sector

The objective of the project is to support the successful implementation of Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations(ASEAN) countries by regional institutional capacity building and by improving the competitive position of ASEAN among CDM host countries in the energy sector.

The major priority of this program is to facilitate the exchange of experience between ASEAN countries and the EU on the implementation of CDM, with a focus on institutional issues.

The target group are the national Governments and agencies of ASEAN countries as well as other stakeholders.

The main activities are the organisation of two regional CDM seminars, the organisation of side events at UNFCCC meetings, and the publishing of common discussion papers on topics of ASEAN-wide interest.

The program will result in concrete recommendations on the co-ordination of CDM implementation in ASEAN and on the institutional implementation in ASEAN member countries.

The project partners:

  • Pelangi - Indonesia
  • Pusat Tenaga Malaysia (PTM)- Malaysia
  • Preferred Energy Incorporated (PEI)- the Philippines
  • Centre for Energy Environment Resources Development (CEERD) - Thailand
  • Capacity for Sustainable Development (CAP SD) - Netherlands
  • Hamburg Institutes of International Economics (HWWA)- Germany
  • Ecosecurities Ltd - United Kingdom

The study is finance by ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE) and European Commission (EC) through EC-ASEAN Energy Facility (EAEF).
