Forestry in the CDM

This research is aimed at understanding the local aspects of the implementation of the clean development mechanism (CDM) under the Kyoto Protocol in the forestry sector. The research is carried out in collaboration with local researchers in areas most potential to become the sites of forestry CDM projects.

Three case studies were undertaken in Jambi, Central Kalimantan, and Central Sulawesi.

This research project was partially funded by the Government of Finland. A follow up to this research project is currently being planned.

As one of the outcomes of the project, a booklet titled "Does Money Grow on Trees: Opportunities and Challenges in the Forestry CDM in Indonesia" was published and distributed at the Eighth Conference of the Parties to the Climate Convention (COP8) in New Delhi, India.

The content of the book was also presented at a conference hosted by the University of Tampere, Finland. Click here to download the PowerPoint presentation (in English).

Pelangi also made a presentation at the Ministry of Forestry in Indonesia, presenting the latest development in the international policy on forestry CDM and providing a critique on the Indonesian submission to the UNFCCC on forestry CDM.
