EPA Denies Challenges To Greenhouse Gas Rule

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency on Thursday rejected 10 petitions challenging EPA's 2009 finding that climate-warming greenhouse gas emissions endanger human health and the environment.The EPA received petitions questioning the scientific basis for the so-called endangerment finding -- which cleared the way for the EPA to curb carbon dioxide emissions -- from Texas and Virginia and groups like the Ohio Coal Association.

Melting glaciers, more humid air and eight other key indicators show that global warming is undeniable, scientists said on Wednesday, citing a new comprehensive review of the last decade of climate data.Without addressing why this is happening, the researchers said there was no doubt that every decade on Earth since the 1980s has been hotter than the previous one, and that the planet has been warming for the last half-century.

The United Nations' climate secretariat on Thursday issued 228,400 Kyoto Protocol carbon offsets to three Asian clean energy projects, ending a two-week issuance drought but failing to reassure concerned investors. Skip related contentThe offsets, called Certified Emissions Reductions, were given to two Chinese wind farms and an Indian biomass facility, and represented the largest daily issuance since June 16.

Surabaya, Kompas - Suhu permukaan laut di sekitar Jawa Timur menghangat. Akibatnya, penguapan air laut lebih tinggi sehingga hujan tetap terjadi pada musim kemarau.
Prakirawan Badan Meteorologi, Klimatologi, dan Geofisika (BMKG) Juanda, Ari Pulong, mengatakan, fenomena ini disebut kemarau basah. Meski sudah masuk musim kemarau, di beberapa wilayah, seperti Surabaya dan sekitarnya, masih hujan dengan intensitas rendah hingga sedang. ”Kemarau basah lazim terjadi apabila suhu air laut naik,” kata Ari, Rabu (28/7) di Surabaya.

WWF: Hutan Kalteng Akan Musnah Antara 2012-2016

Palangkaraya (ANTARA News) - WWF Indonesia memprediksikan bahwa hutan Kalimantan Tengah (Kalteng) akan musnah antara tahun 2012-2016 berdasarkan data tutupan hutan kalimantan dari tahun 1900 hingga sekarang dengan menggunakan proyeksi konservatif dan proyeksi pesimistis."Proyeksi konservatif atau pengelolaan hutan secara lestari kerusakan hutan dapat ditekan sebesar 781.529 Ha per tahun, apabila terjadinya kesalahan dalam pengelolaan hutan atau proyeksi pesimistis maka hutan akan hilang sebesar 1.240.000 Ha per tahun, jika tutupan hutan Kalteng seluas 8.635.944,854 Ha. maka hutan Kalteng akan hilang antara tahun 2012 - 2016." IAEA: Indonesia Sudah Siap Punya Energi Nuklir

Surabaya (ANTARA News) - International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) atau badan energi atom dunia di bawah naungan PBB menegaskan bahwa Indonesia sudah siap memiliki energi bertenaga nuklir."Penegasan itu dikemukakan pada November 2009," kata Deputi Bidang Pendayagunaan Hasil Litbang dan Pemasyarakatan Iptek Nuklir BATAN Dr Taswanda Taryo di kampus ITS Surabaya, Rabu.Ia mengemukakan bahwa hal itu setelah berbicara dalam seminar tentang "Teknologi dan Keselamatan PLTN" yang menampilkan Prof Mukhtasor PhD dari Dewan Energi Nasional (DEN) dan Ian Love dari Atomic Energy of Canada Limited (AECL).
